I have often heard country people called rednecks and I feel this does an injustice to country people. There is a world of difference between being redneck and being country.  Some country people may be ignorant to the ways of the world for no other reason than lack of exposure and they are almost always ready to learn about that which they do not know. A redneck on the other hand if you call him stupid he will stand there with this goofy grin wondering what's the problem. If you tell him he's ignorant (ignrnt, redneck translation) he's ready to fight. I just realized I keep using he to describe rednecks but it does seem the vast majority are male. Maybe it's something in their jeans.
